The Exploratory Research on the Educational Significance of Grandmothers¡¯ Care for Grandchildren

|
The purpose of the research is to explore the educational significance of grandmothers' care for grandchildren in double-income families. The ethnographic method out of qualitative research methods, developed by Spradley, was used for the study. The participants in the research comprised 13 grandmothers who cared or have cared for grandchildren on a regular basis more than one year in the diverse context, and the data were collected through deep interviews with them. The results of the data analysis showed as the educational significance of granchildren-rearing in grandmothers ¡®Feeling full parenting-joy¡¯ and ¡®Repenting their parenting method on their offspring¡¯, as the educational significance in grandchildren ¡®Emphasizing personality education for grandchildren¡¯, and as the educational significance in adult offspring ¡®Supplementing their adult offspring's parenting attitude. This paper contemplates the meaning of the educational significance of grandmothers' care for grandchildren.
